Make that twelve… 5/13/13

Minnesota’s State Senate today passed marriage equality legislation, already passed by their House of Representatives.  Governor Mark Dayton will sign the bill into law in a ceremony Tuesday at 5pm local time.

The Senate voted 37-30.  Four days ago, the Minnesota House of Representatives voted 75-59.

That will make 12 states, and the District of Columbia, where marriage equality is the law of the land.

It should be noted that California’s legislature twice voted to approve marriage equality, in 2005 and 2007, but both bills were vetoed by then Governor Schwarzenegger.

Rulings by the Supreme Court are expected in June on cases involving the so-called “Defense of Marriage Act”, and Proposition 8.
